"All these books are arid with dry and bitter lessons."
This short opera is a masterpiece of twentieth century music, L’enfant et les sortilèges is based on a poem by Colette. This jewel of the lyrical repertoire is a fantasy in two parts and a single act, recreating delightful childhood fairytales and combining American musical comedy with unique and atmospheric scenography. Colette’s story tells us the story of a naughty boy, who, left at home alone turns his room into a chaotic mess. The evocation of childhood and, more specifically, maternal love, inspired one of the most magical scores ever written by Ravel.
